How to change Facebook Notifications Settings

This was tough to find. I stopped looking for it at some point but found it today while looking for something else. Here's how to change Facebook notifications:

1. Click on the blue World icon in the upper right corner:

2. Click on Settings in the upper right corner of the box that pops up.
3. Click on Desktop and Mobile.
Here you can Turn On/Off notifications here like:
  • Comments on posts you're tagged in
  • Comments on friends timelines you're tagged in
  • Posts you're tagged in
  • Updates to an event you've joined
  • See your notifications in the corner of your computer screen, even when Facebook is closed

How to Opt out of Facebook's Personalized Advertising

Opt out of Facebook's interest based advertising here: http://www.aboutads.info/choices/

From Facebook:
Giving you more control over ads
We've heard from some of you that it can be difficult to control the types of ads you see if you use multiple devices and browsers. In the past, if you opted out of certain kinds of advertising on your laptop, that choice may not have been applied for ads on your phone. We know that many people use more than one phone, tablet or browser to access Facebook, so it should be easy for you to make a single choice that applies across all of your devices.
That's why Facebook respects the choices you make about the ads you see, across every device. You can opt out of seeing ads on Facebook based on the apps and sites you use through the Digital Advertising Alliance. You can also opt out using controls on iOS and Android. When you tell us you don't want to see these types of ads, your decision automatically applies to every device you use to access Facebook. Also, we're now making ad preferences available in additional countries, beginning with Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland and the UK.

Facebook Crashes on iPad

Do this: uninstall/re-install the Facebook App. If that doesn't work then also reset the iPad.

After doing that Facebook is no longer closing on me. Don't do the reset unless the uninstall/re-install doesn't work as it's a bit of work to get all your settings back like you want them after performing an iPad reset

My version at time of this post writing: iPad 3

How to get your Flickr Photos to show up in your Facebook Stream

http://www.flickr.com/help/account/#3102:

Can I automatically update my Facebook when I update my photostream?

Yes you can! We’ve made it even easier for you to use Facebook’s import feature. Just go to your account and activate the link (you may be asked to login at Facebook if you are not already). Once you’ve done that, your latest Flickr uploads will be added into your Facebook News Feed and Mini-Feed.

Get your Flickr photos to show up in your Facebook profile

Uploads in Flickr will automatically post on Facebook as thumbnail images that your friends can click on through to Flickr.
"Here is a caveat: it doesn’t always work automatically. I often have to go to my Facebook profile and click Settings (the one with the gear icon) below my status entry field. Then I have to click Update next to the Flickr import link. I often have to click this three times before it actually imports my latest photo links."

More from flickr:

Why aren't my new uploads showing on Facebook?
After you have activated the link, photos marked as safe and public will appear in the feeds. Videos currently won't appear although we are hoping to add this in the future.
If your new safe & public photos fail to appear after linking your accounts, try manually updating your feed from within Facebook as follows:

  • Log into Facebook and go to your Profile
  • Under the "Whats' on your mind" status field, click 'Options' (just below the 'Share' button)
  • That word will change into 'Settings' - click that
  • You will see Flickr in the imported sites area
  • to update, click the Flickr link and tell it to update now
For more help with this feature, please contact Facebook support.

How to get a personalized FaceBook URL when they don’t offer one

Facebook is not yet enabling “vanity” URL for your profiles but they “hope to make these URLs available (…) in the future.” Until then you can do this: 1. Click on “home” then click on “profile”, you should see a URL like this in your address field: www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=123456789&ref=profile 2. Now copy that number, in this example 123456789. 3. The public URL for your Facebook page is then: www.facebook.com/people/FirstName-LastName/123456789 Put in your real first and last name in the above link and keep the hyphen as separator. Voila! However, if you want to be found by people who are not on Facebook yet, you would have to first make your profile publicly searchable by going to Privacy Settings -> Search. When you have your personal URL, make it trackable baby! Hint: Case Sensitive, took me 10 minutes to figure that out! http://bit.ly/JenHarris09FaceBook I use bit.ly & I can’t tell you how it has made my online life justifiable! You can customize a shortened URL, place it ANYWHERE you want (wordpress, FaceBook, Twitter (duh), LinkedIn, Communities etc) for optimal tracking. So if you are using anything BUT bit.ly, re-think & think how smart you will look when you can say “and then we received 80% of our hits from ONE post, which led to an increase in sales that day for a 45% conversion rate “. Just saying, makes you look cool! ! Big thanks to: http://caffeinatedmarketing.com/2009/04/06/personalize-your-facebook-url/
