How to get Missing Notes back onto iPhone

Wow, this worked.

If all your notes are missing from your iPhone, and you have a lot of notes in iCloud (I have ~25), in order for those to reappear on your iPhone, your iPhone MUST be connected to WiFi.

Once all those notes reappear, and you're only adding a note here and there, they should sync fine when you're not connected to WiFi.

So bottom line, if all your notes are gone, connect to WiFi and they should reappear on your phone.

It took escalation through 4 technician levels at Apple to resolve this issue today.

UPDATE 7/10/2018:

This still doesn't work most of the time.
Apple's support page for this issues doesn't help: https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht204051

iPhone simply loses the ability to see some networks. My PC see's the network (and I'm connected to it as I type this), I'm sitting within 1 foot of my router, restarting the router doesn't help, and resetting Network Settings (Tap Settings; General; Reset; Reset Network Settings) doesn't work either. That's all they've got.

Frustrating to be out shopping, open your iNotes to view yours lists, and see iNotes haven't been updated in ages.

Note that the calendar and other apps are working just fine (they don't need the inconvenience of having to connect to the cloud to update).

Is there a better Notes app out there? Will look but please send suggestions, thanks!

iPhone Music Stuck on White Screen

This was the best and easiest solution when my iPhone Music app was stuck on a white screen:

1. Double click on the Home button
2. Swipe all the app screens upwards one by one until only the home screen is left
3. Click on the Home button
4. Press and hold the Sleep / Wake button until the screen shows something like "Swipe to turn off"
5. After 30 seconds or so, press and hold the Sleep / Wake button to restart the iPhone."

iPhone Photos stuck in Landscape

Easy, and this was the only way to fix stuck orientation--
Simply Restart iPhone:
  1. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
  3. After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.

iPhone: Purchased items have not been transferred to iTunes

If you get this message, "There are purchased items on the iPhone... that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating", do this to transfer those items. (Note some or all of those may simply be "free" apps.)

1) Before you can transfer the purchases you need to Authorise the computer (do this from the Store menu)

2) Once the computer is authorised, then you can transfer the purchases (File->Devices->Transfer...)

How to see your iPhone calendar in a continuous list view

How to see your iPhone calendar in a continuous list view:
  • Just click on any single date (best if you pick today's date so the list is on or around today then say sometime back in 2013)
  • Voila - you are now in list view

Remove Speck's CandyShell for iPhone 4/4S

How to remove the CandyShell:

Place your thumbs right on the Speck logo on the back of the case, and use your fingers to gently flex and bend the top corners of the CandyShell off of the top corners of your iPhone 4S/4. Make sure to gently press the back of the case with your thumbs as you bend the top corners, it will make it much easier to pop your iPhone 4S/4 out of the CandyShell!. Once you have the top of your iPhone 4S/4 out, the bottom will slip off easily.

Closing out Apps on your iPhone Does NOT Extend Battery Life

Like "playing whack-a-mole", tapping the little X's on the iPhone apps you see when you press the home button twice does not shut down a running app. Not sure where this misinformation got started!

Source: HuffingtonPost The 9 Biggest Tech Myths You Hear All The Time (But Are Absolutely Untrue)

"For a long time, the common wisdom held that in order to save battery life on the iPhone, we could just double-tap the home button and close out all the apps on the bottom tray that we weren't using. BLOOP BLOOP BLOOP: 'X' out of the apps, and battery would be saved.

Except, here's the thing: Those apps you see when you press the home button twice aren't actually running or using up any battery. As Fraser Speirs pointed out earlier this year, that row of icons is a list of recently used apps, NOT currently-running apps; when you hit the home button and exit an app, the iPhone automatically shuts it down after five seconds or so. Except in special cases (listed on Speirs' site), the app is not running nor eating up battery life.

Closing out apps might be dang satisfying -- it's like playing whack-a-mole! -- but it is almost certainly not preserving battery life."

But here is a BIG tip for making your iPhone battery life longer:

How to Make your iPhone Battery last Longer

One of the biggest drains on your iPhone battery is from too many apps with Location Services activated. I turn all off except for Siri (and sometimes I leave Maps on if I know I'll be using it). By leaving only Siri on, my iPhone can go for at least a couple of days without recharging.

Settings > Location Services > Location Services = ON but scroll down through all the apps and turn all OFF except for Siri.

You also MUST leave the the overall Location Services ON in order for Find My iPhone to work!!! Scroll to the bottom of those Apps and make sure Find My iPhone is ON.

Another big drain on your phone is letting apps push content (like banners) to you. Go into the App, find Settings, and turn OFF any tracking. I just did this with the Starbucks App (great app by the way - no need to bring cash to Starbucks, but do turn off push notifications if you want to preserve battery life).

Finally, you can dim your display. The brighter your screen the more juice you are using. Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper > Auto-brightness

How to open iPhone Camera from locked Mode

To quickly open the Camera when iPhone is locked, press the Home button or the On/Off button to turn the screen on, then drag the camera icon (it's beside "slide to unlock") up.

Yes, you drag up! Clicking the icon will not work. Yea, I was clicking too.

How to sync your iPad with Outlook

How to sync your iPad or iPhone with Outlook.
  • With iPad connected (either tethered or via WiFi) open iTunes.
  • In the left panel of iTunes under DEVICES, click your iPad.
  • Click Info at the top of the screen
  • Click those items you'd like to sync.
I sync:
All Contacts with Outlook.
All Calendars with Outlook.
All Mail from Outlook
Under Other I sync Safari Bookmarks
I don't sync Notes because I sync those to iCloud (you don't want to sync to both places as you will likely end up with duplicates on your device)

Under Advanced, I have nothing checked, if things got out of whack on the iPad I would then check most all of these. Sync once. Then un-check them.

Be sure to turn off iCloud syncing of the items you are syncing via iTunes. Otherwise you will likely have duplicates (aka 'a mess').

Change iPad Apple ID in iCloud

Go to Settings, iCloud and switch all of the "On" buttons to "Off" (but OK to keep Find My iPad switched on) and select "Delete from My iPad" for each of the buttons you switch to Off. You'll want to delete so that when you log back on the data will be updated with the new data.

Then at the bottom of the screen select "Delete Account", and click "Delete" again and then again.

Now you will have a new iCloud screen where you can type in your Apple ID and password.

This works for iPhone too.

How to Change the App Store ID on your iPad

Go to the app store, click on Featured at the bottom, scroll all the way down, click on Account (your Apple ID), sign out, then sign in, and choose "Use Existing Apple ID". You can now input a new Apple App Store User ID on your iPad.

Took awhile to find how to do this!

This will work on your iPhone too.

The Best In-Car Charger for iPhone, iPad

On my wish list list is the 'Highway' in-car charger from 'Just Mobile' for Apple devices. Fantastic looking and great features such as a coiled cable, a fuse to protect against surges, and a green micro-LED power light. Perfect!

Does Jailbreaking Void my iPhone Warranty? Maybe.

Jailbreaking voids the warranty, but if you use iTunes and restore to original factory settings, the Geniuses at Apple may not know (or look hard enough to find out).

Source and thanks: Jailbreak iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and Apple TV:

"Yes and no. Yes, because if you go to the Apple store and show your jailbroken iPhone to an Apple employee, you will be told that you can’t receive customer support because you voided your warranty the minute you jailbroke. Apple of course acknowledges the US government’s DMCA exception ruling that makes jailbreak legal, but that doesn’t mean that Apple has to allow jailbreak in its customer agreement.

From Apple’s support article on jailbreaking:

“Apple strongly cautions against installing any software that hacks the iOS. It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of the iOS is a violation of the iPhone end-user license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software.”
If you really have to take your iOS device to an Apple store, you can always restore it to its factory settings in iTunes. This will bring your iOS device back to the way it was when you first bought it, and Apple will have no way of telling that you ever jailbroke.
Many people have taken previously jailbroken devices to Apple several times before that were restored beforehand. Apple is usually not able to tell will provide full and normal customer support."
