Disable Dangerous Lenovo Touchscreen

Disable Lenovo touchscreen

You must uninstall Lenovo touchscreen because it will start placing trades for you in your trading programs. No joke. Dangerous. The problem is that you have to keep uninstalling it because every time Windows updates it adds it back. Arghhh.

  1. Open Device Manager by pressing the Windows key + X.
  2. Under Human Interface Devices, look for HID-compliant touch screen
  3. Right click on this option and choose Uninstall.
Old notes:
Follow these steps
a. Winkey + Q.
b. Type Control Panel.
c. Go to Hardware and Sound.
d. Pen and touch (this will be gone if you uninstalled touch screen above, Remove it)

Lenovo Keyboard is Really Horrible!!!

I'm so annoyed with Lenovo's keyboard. Why did they try to reinvent the keyboard and rearrange the keys? You have to click two keys to use the F-keys (who ever thought that would be a good idea??). So you can go into the Bios and remap the keys so you don't need to do that, but then you have to use two keys for Escape. Simply ridiculous. All this unused space and Lenovo had to jam multiple functions onto one key.

I've got three days to return this Lenovo. Yippee!!! Goodbye.

Turn on F keys on Lenovo Yoga Laptop

To turn on Legacy F keys (F1 to F12) on your Lenovo Yoga laptop so that they are the default without pressing the FN key first:
  1. Shutdown laptop
  2. Press the 'reset' (with paper clip) located to the right of the on/off button
  3. Select BIOS mode
  4. Select Configuration
  5. Select Hotkey Mode and disable that
  6. Exit by pressing Fn + F10
Restart and you should now be able to use the F keys directly!

Update 3/17/2015--
If you do this you'll notice the Escape key now requires a combo stroke (Fn+Esc) since you've effectively reversed the functions of the top row keys. (Curse you Lenovo.) The only way I found to make this less awkward was to redefine the F1 key as my Esc key too. And the only way I found to do that was through a 3rd party download (KeyTweak) which worked fine. It's really quite ridiculous Lenovo.

DON'T BUY Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro!

Update 2/7/2015:
Will be returning this laptop. Since it does this "yoga" thing, all software thinks it's a tablet! Outlook client emails are formatting as if they are on a mobile device (very skinny), and font on remote desktops is itsy-bitsy and can't be changed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1/19/2015: Ordered a new PC laptop today: Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro - 80HE000LUS - Light Silver

This new processessor allows the laptop to run without a fan. And, no harddrive in most any laptop anymore, BTW.

Will let you know how it goes*.

p.s. I thought the yoga thing was stupid but it's growing on me...

*I like the machine so far, but:

2/3/2015--
  • Power cord is too short.
  • Removed Harmony software - constantly popping up to ask if I wanted to optimize this or that, and wouldn't hold previous preferences. Gone!
  • Arghhhh... All that real estate at the top of the keyboard and you didn't include the F-keys row?? Annoying to have to click FN to activate an F-key.
  • Some Outlook 2013 emails display in their mobile format (irritating!!) and no way to convince the machine is not a mobile device. Even the old emails that were brought over from my previous machine are now formatting in mobile. Maybe since this Yoga can turn into a tablet, Outlook thinks this is mobile. Dunno but really sux!!
