If your desktop icons disappeared, here's how to get them back:
Right click on Desktop
Personalize
Change Desktop Icons
and check the ones you want to appear:
Computer
Recyle Bin
Control Panel
User Files
Network
That's for Windows 7, but should be something similar for Vista.

I don't actually know the reason how my all desktop icons disappeared.The process that you gave solved the issue and brought them back. But can you explain why or how they disappeared.Thanks
